CHS Triple Jumper Wins Regional Title

Senior Bulldog DaMarkus Griffin set a PR of 46'4.5" to capture the Class 3A Region 3 triple jump title and qualify for upcoming state competition.

Griffin's winning distance was five inches better than his closest challenger. Breyon Thurman of West Rusk placed second with an effort of 45'11.5".

Griffin's PR set at regional gives him the best seed mark going into state. Marquavous Evans of Mt. Vernon posted a PR of 46'3.75" to win the Region 2 triple jump title and has the second-best seed mark.

First and second place finishers from the state's four regions will advance to the UIL state meet in Austin on May 12-14.

The Bulldogs had several third place finishers at the Region 3 meet, which was held Friday and Saturday at Baylor University in Waco.

Griffin also took third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.61 and Lucky Daniels was third in long jump at 20'8.25".

Crockett's 4x100 relay team of Alton Owens, LaDarrian Jones, DeAnthony Epps and DaMarkus Griffin clocked in third with a time of 43.12.

Derrick Sherman placed fourth in high jump with an effort of 5'10".

The Bulldog 4x200 relay team of DeAnthony Epps, Lucky Daniels, LaDarrian Jones and DaMarkus Griffin came in fifth with a time of 1:30.07.

Tyress Anderson placed eighth in the 110-meter hurdles and AD Watkins was eighth in the 300 hurdles.

In girls regional competition, Lady Bulldog Mercedes James placed eighth in the 300-meter hurdles.
