Bulldogs Awarded TSWA All-State Honors

Phillips, Crockett First Team Offense All-Purpose and Second Team Kick ReturnerFour Crockett Bulldogs are among the state's elite athletes recognized on the Collins Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association Class 3A All-State Football Team.

Crockett senior A.J. Phillips, a Trinity Valley Community College signee, landedAll State Guys a spot on the First Team Offense as an All-Purpose with 1,581 all-purpose yards on 101 touches for a 15.4 average. He scored 25 touchdowns.Phillips (5-9, 185) was also selected for the Second Team Defense as a kick returner.

Junior lineman Tim Riley (6-0, 305) earned a position on the Third Team Offense.The Bulldog tackle recorded 46 pancake blocks and 61 knockdowns while allowing zero sacks.

Two other Crockett offensive players received Honorable Mention.

The sports writers selected senior quarterback Case Robinson (6-2, 195), who has inked with Lamar University.
Robinson completed 161 of 245 attempts (66%) for 2,480 yards and 35 touchdowns with only 4 interceptions. He also had 94 carries for 548 yards (5.8 average) and 9 touchdowns.

Junior receiver Lucky Daniels (5-11, 178) also garnered Honorable Mention. He logged 37 receptions for 819 yards, an average of 22.1 per catch.

TSWA awarded Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Cameron senior running back Traion Smith received the offensive honor. Smith rushed for 3,010 yards with 49 touchdowns for the Yoemen who fell to Brock 43-33 in the Division I state title game. Smith suffered a game-ending injury just before halftime as Cameron failed to win its fourth straight title.

Brock junior linebacker Zane Young and Waskom senior linebacker Chan Amie shared defensive player of the year honors, each leading their team to 16-0 seasons.

Young had 36 tackles for losses and Amie had 44. The 176-pound Amie was a rare two-way first-team all-state, also rushing for 2,415 yards and 36 touchdowns.

Coach of the Year is Chad Worrell of Brock.
