Crockett High School senior Carlos Anderson recorded a personal best to finish 8th at the District 21-3A cross country meet and earn a trip to the regional championships later this month.
Competing at Elkhart on Wednesday, October 14, Anderson paced the Bulldogs with a time of 20:53. Other CHS team members competing were Antonio Sanchez (23:05), Mario Monsivais (21:26) and Will Easley (25:04).
"Our only senior on the team saved his best for last. Not only did he have a personal best, but finished 8th in the field and will be going on to regional," said CHS coach Jaime Minter.
The regional meet is set for Sam Houston State University on Monday, October 26.
In the girls varsity division, Cristal Arvizu narrowly missed qualifying for regional by finishing in 11th place with a time of 14.50. Arvizu has been plagued by injuries late in the cross country season. America Arcibar posted a time of 16:57 at district. Coach Minter is confident that not only Arvizu, but Arcibar as well, will make it to regionals next year.
Crockett was represented in the junior varsity girls division by Jayda Smith, who finished in 4th place with a time of 19:46 and received a medal for her efforts.
Jack Easley competed in the junior high boys division and posted a time of 14:45.
The junior high girls division included Alia Torres (18:20), Emilee Allen (17:15), Yazaret Marcelo-Ramirez (16:45), and Alexis Frias (13:06). Tynashia McKnight also ran but failed to finish due to an ankle injury.
Coach Minter said he has thoroughly enjoyed working with each of these student-athletes and looks forward to building on this year's success.
