Sandiettes Fall to Harleton

For the second straight year, the Grapeland Sandiettes saw their state title quest ended at the hands of the Harleton Lady Wildcats in a one-game playoff on Friday, May 22 in Dallas.

After four scoreless innings Harleton erupted for six runs in the fifth and three in sixth to win the regional semifinals matchup 9-0.

The No. 1 ranked Harleton squad now faces the winner of the Cushing-Cayuga series in the regional final.

The Grapeland-Harleton game was originally scheduled to be played last Thursday at Bullard, but weather forced the game to be moved to Highland Park High School.

This was the final game for three GHS seniors-- pitcher Baylee Lumbreraz, third baseman Holly Musick and outfielder Cymone Davis.

Junior teams members returning next year are: Allie Gilbert, first baseman; Cheyenne Mixon, outfielder, Whitney Musick, second base, and Arielle Lane, outfielder.

Coming back next year are sophomores Sophia Gilbert, outfield; Taylar Mullen, shortstop/pitcher; Hailee Sheridan, outfield/shortstop; Elizabeth Thorpe, outfield, and Madison Holbrook, outfield. Freshman Megan Holbrook, catcher, rounds out the 2015 squad.

In 2014, Harleton prevailed over Grapeland 6-0 in the regional finals but was eliminated in the state semifinals by Brock 2-0 in a 10-inning battle.
