The Houston County Commissioners Court on Tuesday, July 26, unanimously voted to impose a ban on outdoor burning in all unincorporated areas of Houston County.

Houston County Fire Marshal Roger Dickey to the Courier that although the county is getting a little rain, the drought index keeps climbing.

"These are sometimes more dangerous conditions due to a false sense of security. Some think because it has rained it is safe; however, rain is very 'spotty' and it will take a great deal of wide spread rainfall to begin to reverse conditions," Dickey said. The KDBI (Drought Index) is up to 629 today (Tuesday, July 26).

"Anderson and Trinity Counties enacted their bans yesterday. Now every county north, west and south of Houston County are under burn ban," Dickey added.
