Crash On US 287 Claims Man’s Life

Shane Craig, 44, of Crockett lost his life early Monday morning, June 13, in a two-vehicle crash on US 287 north of Grapeland, according to the Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The DPS report states that at approximately 6 a.m., Houston County DPS troopers responded to the scene of just south of the Anderson County line.

"The preliminary crash investigation indicates a 2005 Dodge pick-up was traveling North on US 287 when it crossed over into the southbound lanes and struck a 2015 Ford pick-up," a statement from the DPS Lufkin office reports.
The report further states that Craig, who was driving the Dodge truck, was pronounced deceased at the scene by a Houston County Justice of the Peace.

The driver of the Ford pickup was identified as Jose Angel Flores-Uribe, 38, of Palestine, TX. Flores-Uribe and three passengers traveling with him were transported to Houston County Medical Center for possible treatment.

This crash remains under investigation. No additional information was available at presstime Tuesday afternoon.
