Local Economy Ended 2015 On Generally Positive Note

Houston County and its five municipalities generally ended 2015 on a positive economic note, based on local sales tax allocations.
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported on Wednesday, Feb. 10, that he is sending Houston County cities $257,275.07 in local sales tax allocations. This is 25.86 percent more than the $204,413.19 the cities received in February 2015.

These allocations are based on sales made in December 2015 by businesses that report tax monthly; October, November and December sales by quarterly filers; and 2015 sales by businesses that report tax annually.

With this month's allocation, the county's five municipalities received a cumulative total of $435,382.33 to date in 2016, a 24.40 percent increase over the $349,979.53 received to date in 2015.

The City of Crockett received $218,355.28 this month, a 25.01 percent increase over the $174,658.56 received in February 2015.
The city's 2016 Payments to Date total $372,647.37, a 24.78 percent increase over the $298,624.52 2015 Payments to Date.

Grapeland showed a healthy month, receiving $26,763.50, a 48.88 percent increase over the $17,975.80 received in February 2015.

For the year so far, Grapeland has received $41,566.14, an 41.18 percent increase over the $29,441.43 received at this point in 2015.

Kennard received a February payment totaling $1,289.80, a 9.34 percent decrease from the $1,422.69 received in February 2015.
For the year to date, Kennard has received $2,582.70, a 30.92 percent decrease from the $3,739.25 received to date in 2015.

The February 2016 allocation for Latexo was $1,073.52, a 51.04 percent decrease over the $2,192.73 received in February 2015.

Latexo's 2016 payments to date total $2,830.54, a 30.92 percent decrease from the $4,084.36 received to date in 2015.

The City of Lovelady's February 2016 allocation was $9,792.97, a 19.96 percent increase over the February 2015 payment of $8,163.41.

Lovelady's 2016 payments to date total $15,755.58, an 11.82 percent increase over the $14,089.97 received to date in 2015.

Houston County's February 2016 allocation was $133,611.00, a 6.87 percent increase from the $125,016.57 February 2015 allocation.

Looking at first two months of the year, the county has received $231,475.27 so far in 2016. This is a 2.44 percent increase over the 2015 payments to date that equalled $225,943.53.
