Thanks to the efforts of Laura Bowlin, Dr. Mark Allen, DVM; Love On Wheels volunteers, Humane Society of Flower Mound and numerous local volunteers, 12 dogs and 7 cats are on the road to new homes in the Dallas area this afternoon. The Humane Society of Flower Mound has foster homes ready to take in the lost/abandoned animals that had been housed at Houston County Veterinary Clinic, recently purchased by the Crockett Veterinary Clinic. Plans are underway for a new animal shelter in Houston County. In the meantime, South Pine Animal Hospital and Crockett Veterinary Clinic will take in animals to a limited degree --due to safe space limitations. Allen said the decision not to maintain the shelter at the former Houston County Veterinary Clinic primarily was due to liability reasons. It is important to keep strays separated from clinic and boarded pets due to the risk of cross contamination, he and Bowlin explained.
