An alert citizen's report to the Houston County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) on Monday, May 19 led to the arrest of two men and the recovery of stolen farm equipment.
According to HCSO officials, the investigation began with a call that came in regarding suspicious activity in the Pennington area, south of Crockett.
"The caller reported that someone was driving his neighbor's tractor down a road and the driver was not familiar to him," HCSO officials stated.
Deputies responding to the call conducted an investigation, including interviews, and ultimately arrested two Crockett men and charged them with alleged theft of the tractor and hay forks.
The tractor, along with stolen hay forks, were returned to the owner.
Broderick Creag, 36, of Crockett and Marcus Peterson, 27, of Crockett both were arrested as suspects in this criminal act and charged with State Jail Felony theft, according to the HCSO.
They were booked into the Houston County Jail.
Houston County Sheriff Darrel Bobbitt stated, "This is an example of how important it is for citizens to report any suspicious activity. We still live in a community where neighbors can be the eyes and ears for each other and this is what helps to solve crime."
